The President and the Electoral Process
The President of the IBAF is elected by the General Assembly of the International Baseball Federation.
The General Assembly is comprised of member nations, and voting rights are given to members with voting eligible status. (For all the information on status, please review the ‘Statutes’ and ‘By Laws’ of the IBAF, you can download these from the new look IBAF.org in march).
In December of 2009 the General Assembly elected Riccardo Fraccari of Italy to the Presidential Office. Riccardo Fraccari’s bio includes,
- Riccardo was born in Pisa (Tuscany), Italy
- Is the Owner of a degree in Bio Chemistry from the University of Pisa, where he also served as a professor
- Has served as an umpire, culminating in the award ‘best amateur umpire in the world’
- Has served in 7 Olympic Games as Umpire, Umpire Director and Official
- Was inducted into the ABUA Hall of Fame in 2002
- Has served in an official capacity in the following functions, FIBS Vice President, FIBS Umpire Commissioner, Confederation of European Baseball (CEB) Technical Commission President, IBAF Technical Commission member, President FIBS, Vice President Confederation of European Baseball (CEB), Member of the CONI Council

ABUA - Amateur Baseball Umpire Association www.umpire.org
CEB – Confederation of European Baseball, the Continental Baseball body in Europe, organizer of the European Championships of Baseball www.baseball-em.de
CONI – Committee Olympic National Italy. The National Olympic Committee of Italy, in terms of linage the FIBS is a member of the IBAF, while the CONI is a member of the IOC. As a general principle, this is how the federation system works. www.coni.it
Technical Commission – A commission established to ensure the aspects of the game on the field are fulfilled and the spirit of the game is upheld

Welcome to the International Baseball Federation blog on MLB.com.
The International Baseball Federation (IBAF), is located in Lausanne, Switzerland and is recognized by the International Olympic Committee as the World Governing body of the sport of baseball. The IBAF was founded in 1938, and currently has 118 member federations.
The current President of the IBAF is Riccardo Fraccari, replacing Dr Harvey Schiller in the in December 2009. President Fraccari is also the President of the Italian Baseball federation (FIBS www.fibs.com)
The IBAF properties at the moment are the Mens Baseball World Cup, (last won by the United States in 2009), the World Junior Championship, to be held in (Thunder Bay Canada this year at the end of July), the World Youth Championship, The Intercontinental Cup and the Woman’s Baseball World Cup.
The IBAF website is www.ibaf.org and will be undergoing a series of changes over the coming weeks to better reflect the purpose and goals of the organization.
Over the coming weeks and months this blog will offer some insights into the IBAF, the role of the organization, the structure and purpose of the Federation system and of course, and most importantly, updates from the world of baseball from all our member federations.
